Punjab to Introduce e-Text Books for School Children

School students in Punjab can now access their textbooks online as the state education board will introduce e-books at least for some classes from the next academic session.
“We are going to launch digital textbooks from the next session. The books will be made available online and students can have access to them anytime, anywhere. This service will be available free of any charge,” Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) chairman D.S. Dhillon told IANS Sunday.

A district cyber center pilot scheme was launched in Hong Kong on Sunday to help young people from low-income families access information and communications technology and online services.
The initial stage will support 14 centers providing about 250 computers, Internet connectivity, computing facilities, training programs and technical support to serve the needy communities.
A laptop library will be established with about 250 laptop computers for loan to the public in the initial phase.

HA NOI — A programme ensuring internet access at all educational institutions across the country that was launched five months ago has seen swift progress, and a Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) official says the work could be completed one year ahead of schedule.
General director of the ministry’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department Quach Tuan Ngoc said it was initially planned to implement the programme’s final phase in remote and mountainous areas in 2010.
"However, the plan was changed and installation has already started in both urban and disadvantaged areas," he said.
